bio-bean and Network Rail
Network Rail and bio-bean.
bio-bean is now collecting waste coffee grounds from a number of major Network Rail properties, including London’s busiest stations. bio-bean works closely with Waterloo, Victoria, Liverpool Street and numerous other iconic commuter hubs to collect waste coffee grounds and divert them to their world-first waste coffee recycling factory.
News of the trial went live in later July and was featured on the BBC and London Live. Newspaper appearances included The Metro and The Independent, with around twenty-five other articles in the days following the release. BT picked up on the story, as did CIWM, Edie, and 2degrees.
Arthur Kay, CEO of bio-bean, was reported as commenting:
“The UK generates over 500,000 tonnes of waste coffee grounds each year, costing the coffee industry almost £80m in waste disposal fees. bio-bean recycles waste coffee grounds into advanced biofuels at an industrial scale, creating local, sustainable green energy as an alternative to fossil fuels. We are delighted to provide a cost-effective disposal solution for waste coffee grounds from these major transport hubs.”
